Weekend Barn Manager
(Part Time)

River Wind Farm is looking to fill a part-time position, "Weekend Barn Manager". This is an outstanding opportunity to join the team at a top equestrian center in Pembroke, MA. River Wind Farm provides lessons year-round for riders of all ages and experience level and maintains a busy show schedule under the supervision of Owner & Head Trainer Carl Catani. A life-long horseman, Carl is one of the most well respected trainers in New England, and has helped produce/train numerous horses, riders, and professionals who have gone on to have extremely successful show careers. This role will be responsible for overseeing and providing general care of all the horses on the weekends (Friday - Sunday OR Saturday - Monday). Ideal candidates will be hard-working team players with some previous horse experience.

 

Daily responsibilities will include:

  • Feeding grain both AM & PM

  • Haying

  • Watering

  • Turn-out

  • Oversee/supervise daily barn staff

  • Occasionally assisting in cleaning/mucking of stalls (most days stalls are cleaned by other staff members who are solely responsible for cleaning all stalls).

  • Liaison between customers/horse owners and the vet, the trainers, and the Barn Manager.

  • Assisting vet if needed

  • Administering medications orally, in grain, or IM shot if have experience (Will NOT be asked to give IV shot)

  • Communicating with Carl (Owner/Head Trainer) & Jen (Assistant Trainer) & Weekday Barn Manager about any changes in horses' health, medications, veterinary related topics, client requests, etc.

  • Teaching a few beginner lessons on Saturdays and Sundays.

  • Grooming & tacking up horses

  • Assisting in riding of the horses (for qualified candidates with experience riding) This is an excellent chance to learn from some top horseman and women with years of experience, and to get your foot in the door in the horse industry at a top show facility.   • ideal candidates will have own transportation

  • previous horse experience preferred 

  • ability to work BOTH weekend days

  • some flexibility to work an additional day or two if needed to help cover while other staff are away at horse shows, vacation, etc.

  • ability & interest in teaching beginner lessons
